Which AI is right for me? The 6-question quiz
Answer 6 simple questions and find the AI assistant that best fits your budget, your needs and your priorities. Your result also suggests two alternatives, each with its strengths, its limits and a dated price.
How the quiz works
The “Which AI is right for me?” quiz asks you 6 questions, one at a time. Each answer raises or lowers the score of assistants depending on how well they fit your situation. At the end, a weighted score (a score where some criteria count more than others) ranks every assistant we track, and the quiz shows you the ones that come out on top.
Two things worth knowing before you start:
- Everything runs in your browser. The calculation happens on your device, using our assistants data file. Your answers are not sent anywhere and are not stored.
- The data comes from the providers. Our file covers around 30 consumer AI assistants. Their prices and features are collected from the providers’ official pages, and the date they were last checked appears on each profile.
The details of the calculation, including how much each question weighs, are explained on our methodology page.
Why these 6 questions
We kept the criteria that genuinely change the recommendation for a beginner, and left out anything that requires technical knowledge.
- Your budget: free, a small monthly budget, or a full subscription. This is often the first filter. Plenty of assistants have a free tier, but with usage caps or features locked behind the paid plan.
- What you mainly want to do: write, look things up, get work done (summarize, organize, draft emails), create images, have the AI take actions for you, or code. An assistant that’s great at writing isn’t necessarily the best at finding recent sources or generating an image.
- Your device: phone or computer. Some assistants have a polished mobile app; others shine on a big screen.
- How much privacy matters to you. Assistants don’t all offer the same controls: turning off chat history, opting out of having your conversations used to train models, or knowing which country the company is based in.
- Your experience level. Someone discovering AI needs a simple interface. Someone already comfortable will appreciate more options.
- Your working language. Assistants aren’t equally good in every language, especially when it comes to nuance, tone and natural phrasing.
How to read your result
Your result shows one main recommendation and 2 alternatives. For each one, you get:
- 3 reasons explaining why it matches your answers;
- what it doesn’t do, so there are no surprises;
- a dated price, with the date it was checked;
- a link to its profile, with details on its features, language quality and privacy options.
A table then compares all three side by side. Read it starting with whatever matters most to you: if two assistants are close, the criterion you care about (price, mobile app, privacy) will settle it.
The alternatives aren’t consolation prizes. They often become the better choice if one of your constraints changes: a different budget, a secondary use, another device. The “retake the quiz” button lets you try different answers in seconds and see how the recommendation shifts.
Finally, the address of the result page contains your answers in encoded form. Copy it to find your result again later, or share it with someone asking themselves the same question: it will show the same result, and nothing is saved on our servers.
The quiz’s limits
A recommendation is not a hands-on review. The quiz matches your answers against public information; it doesn’t measure how well an assistant handles your own tasks. Also keep in mind that:
- plans change often: prices, free-tier limits and features evolve regularly;
- always check the price on the provider’s website before subscribing, especially when there are several plans or prices vary by country;
- your own experience beats any score: the best way to decide is still to try the free version of two assistants on a task you actually do, then keep the one you feel most comfortable with.
What’s next?
Depending on what you’re after:
- to see every assistant and filter them yourself, open the AI assistants comparison;
- to follow how models evolve week after week, check the AI ranking;
- if you’re new to AI, the Start path walks you through the basics step by step;
- to get better answers from your very first chats, try the prompt generator (a prompt is simply the instruction you write to the AI).
Frequently asked questions
Is the quiz free and anonymous?
Yes. The quiz is free and needs no sign-up. Everything is calculated in your browser, so your answers are never sent to us or stored.
Why doesn't the quiz recommend the most famous AI?
The quiz isn't looking for the most popular assistant, but for the one that best matches your answers. A household name may be a weaker fit for your budget, your device or your privacy needs. You can still compare it with the others in the AI assistants comparison.
Are the prices in my result up to date?
Every price comes with the date it was checked on the provider's official page. Plans change often, so always confirm the price on the provider's website before you subscribe.
Can I share my result?
Yes. Your answers are encoded in the address of the result page. Copy the link to come back to it later or send it to a friend; nothing is stored on our side.
How is the score calculated?
Each answer gives assistants more or fewer points depending on their features, and each question carries its own weight in the final score. The full method is described on our methodology page.
