What you build with Voiceflow

Voiceflow is for designing agents that hold conversations, written or spoken. On the voice side, it relies on speech recognition and text-to-speech to answer the phone, transfer a call or hand over to a human agent. On the chat side, it powers a website widget or a messaging channel. Listed integrations include Zendesk, Salesforce, HubSpot, Shopify and SMS through Twilio.

The documentation describes two ways to build the logic. “Playbooks” set a goal and let the model decide how to reach it, much like an agentic workflow. “Workflows” stay deterministic, step by step, for paths that must always run the same way. A “Crew” step coordinates several playbooks, which brings Voiceflow close to a multi-agent setup. JavaScript code steps, API tools and support for the Model Context Protocol let you connect your own systems.

A team tool with a release cycle

Voiceflow puts weight on running agents in production: evaluations, conversation observability, and separate development, staging and production environments. The company cites SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certifications, plus GDPR and HIPAA compliance. In practice, it speaks as much to conversation designers as to the developers who maintain the integrations.

Billing: worth clarifying before you commit

Your bill combines a monthly plan fee, add-ons (editor seats, phone numbers, concurrent calls) and the credits your agents consume. As of October 22, 2026, the company does not publish amounts on its pricing page: they appear in the app or on request. So plan to estimate costs from your expected call and conversation volume before signing up. Private cloud hosting is limited to the Enterprise plan; there is no version you can install yourself.

Limits and alternatives

The main limits are dependence on the hosted platform, pricing that is hard to read from the outside, and a free plan designed for trials. Free choice of AI model, on the other hand, reduces the risk of being tied to one model vendor.

For a chat-first support agent, compare with Botpress. In a Microsoft environment, Copilot Studio also covers voice and chat. Official site: voiceflow.com.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Voiceflow cost?

As of October 22, 2026, the official pricing page does not show dollar amounts. It offers a free trial with no credit card, usage-based billing and a pricing request for enterprises. The documentation describes four plans: Free, Pro, Business and Enterprise.

Is the Voiceflow free plan enough?

According to the documentation, the Free plan gives a one-time credit that does not renew and is not meant for production. It is mainly for exploring the tool and prototyping.

Can Voiceflow handle phone calls?

Yes. Voiceflow lets you build voice agents with phone numbers, concurrent calls billed as an add-on, and call transfer to a human. The same agent can also run in chat.

Can I pick my own AI model in Voiceflow?

Yes. Voiceflow highlights avoiding model lock-in: you choose among major model providers or bring your own. The Business plan adds fallback models in case of an outage.
