What Flowise did

Flowise, written in TypeScript and launched in 2023, let you build AI applications by wiring blocks together on a canvas instead of writing all the code. It offered three builders:

  • Assistant, the simplest, for an assistant that follows instructions and uses tools;
  • Chatflow, for an agent or chatbot grounded in your documents through RAG;
  • Agentflow, for orchestrating a multi-agent system with steps, conditions and human approval.

It connected to many models, open or proprietary, had MCP client and server nodes, and could be self-hosted with npm or Docker. Flows were exposed through an API or embedded in a website as a chat widget.

Acquisition, then end of life

Workday announced its acquisition of Flowise on August 14, 2025, to bring its agent-building capabilities into the Workday platform. Less than a year later, the team announced the end of the open-source project:

  • July 29, 2026: development frozen, last release published (3.1.4);
  • August 2026: GitHub repository archived and made read-only;
  • August 31, 2026: end of the team’s official presence on Discord and GitHub.

The npm packages and Docker images are marked as deprecated. As of October 22, 2026, the official website announces the sunset but still lists Flowise Cloud (Free, Starter at $35 per month, Pro at $65 per month), with no published shutdown date.

What to do if you use it

The code stays under Apache 2.0, so you can keep running your instance or maintain a fork. Without security patches, though, an internet-facing instance becomes a growing risk, especially if it handles API keys or customer data. The sensible path is to inventory your flows, note the models, tools and knowledge bases each one uses, and rebuild them elsewhere.

Maintained alternatives

Langflow is the closest match: a visual canvas, agents, RAG and MCP, under the MIT license. Dify works well for chatbots and assistants built on a document base. n8n is the better choice if your flows mainly automate data exchange between apps. Frequently asked questions

Does Flowise still work?

Existing installations keep running, but the team froze development on July 29, 2026, archived the GitHub repository in August 2026 and ended its official presence on Discord and GitHub on August 31, 2026. There are no more fixes, security patches included.

Can I keep using the code?

Yes. The code remains available under the Apache 2.0 license and can be forked, except for the enterprise folder, which is under a commercial license. Maintaining a fork means handling updates and vulnerabilities yourself.

What about Flowise Cloud?

As of October 22, 2026, the website says “We're sunsetting Flowise” while still listing cloud plans (Free at $0, Starter at $35 per month, Pro at $65 per month). No shutdown date for the cloud has been published, so avoid starting a long-term project there.

What can replace Flowise?

Langflow is the closest in spirit, Dify suits assistants built on documents, and n8n suits automations between apps. All three can be self-hosted.
