Where to find Meta AI

Launched in September 2023 by Meta, Meta AI stands out because there’s nothing to install: it’s already inside the group’s messaging and social apps. In WhatsApp it appears as a separate chat and a search bar; in Instagram and Facebook it’s part of search and messaging. There’s also a website, meta.ai, and a standalone app.

The assistant runs on Muse Spark, a model Meta introduced in April 2026. It answers questions, drafts messages, creates images and, depending on the country, can talk with you like a voice assistant.

Free, with Meta One as an option

Meta AI is free. In September 2026, Meta launched Meta One, a set of subscriptions bundling perks across its apps. In the US, Meta One Core is listed at $7.99 a month and Meta One Premium at $19.99 a month, the latter giving the most room to create images and videos with Meta AI. Meta notes that offers and prices vary by country, and availability in Europe hasn’t been confirmed.

Don’t mix them up: Muse, the personal agent launched in the US in September 2026, is a separate product from Meta AI.

In Europe: a lighter version and a right to object

Meta AI arrived in the European Union in March 2025 with a limited, text-focused version. On privacy, Meta uses your interactions with Meta AI and public content from adult accounts as training data. Private messages with friends and family are not used unless you share them with Meta AI. To refuse, fill in the objection form Meta provides. Meta explains the process in its official announcement for Europe.

Avoid sharing personal details with Meta AI that you wouldn’t want used. To compare its features and settings with other assistants, see the AI assistants comparison.
