Three ways to work with AI

Opera Neon is one of the new AI browsers, but it goes further than adding a chat sidebar. It is organized around three tools:

  • Neon Chat, the built-in conversational assistant, with a free basic version;
  • Neon Do, an AI agent that browses, clicks and fills in forms. It runs locally in the browser but relies on cloud models; it shows its planned steps, and you can pause or redirect it;
  • Neon Make, which produces content: deep research, images, video, and code with deployment options.

“Tasks” group tabs that share a common context, and “Cards” store reusable instructions. The free version also includes an MCP connector for linking the browser to other AI tools, along with a command-line interface.

Free versus Standard

Deep research, image and videoNoYes
Scheduled tasks, long-term memoryNoYes
Google connectors, full model choiceNoYes
Ad blocker, free VPN, MCP connectorYesYes

Standard is billed monthly with applicable taxes included, no commitment, and needs an Opera account. Opera lists models including GPT-5.5, Opus, Gemini 3, Nano Banana Pro, Veo 3.1 and Sora 2. In practice, the free version is a way to get to know the interface; the agents only really pay off with the subscription.

What happens to your data

Opera says your logins, passwords, payment cards and cookies stay on your device. Page content processed by the AI goes to Opera’s and OpenAI’s servers and is deleted from Opera’s servers after 365 days. Opera says it never trains models on user data. The pages we checked don’t state how long OpenAI keeps that content.

The risk that comes with agents

Like every agentic browser, Neon Do reads pages it doesn’t control. A booby-trapped page can try to hijack it through prompt injection while it acts with your logged-in sessions. Being able to watch and stop its steps helps, as long as you actually follow them: that’s the human-in-the-loop principle. Don’t leave it unattended on banking tasks. Frequently asked questions

Is Opera Neon free?

The browser itself is free, with a basic version of Neon Chat, an ad blocker, a free VPN, a command-line interface and an MCP connector. Higher limits for the Neon Do and Make agents, deep research and the full model lineup require the $19.90 monthly plan.

Is my data used to train models?

According to Opera, no: the company says it never trains models on user data. Page content the AI processes is, however, sent to Opera's and OpenAI's servers, and deleted from Opera's servers after 365 days.

Which languages does Opera Neon support?

The interface comes in around 40 languages, and you can write your requests in whichever language you like.

Which operating systems does it run on?

As of October 22, 2026, Opera Neon is available on Windows and macOS. There is no mobile version at that date.
