Pi: Inflection AI's assistant built for conversation
Pi is an AI assistant designed to talk things through rather than churn out work: it listens, asks questions and helps you think. It is still open to the public in October 2026, on the web and on mobile.

An assistant made for conversation
Pi, short for “Personal Intelligence,” is the consumer assistant from Inflection AI, a public benefit corporation based in Palo Alto. While most AI assistants focus on productivity, Pi presents itself as a conversation partner: you can vent, think out loud, prepare for a hard conversation, explore a topic in science or culture, or just chat.
The update announced in July 2026 added practical tools such as reminders and to-do lists, along with richer voice interaction. You can talk to Pi instead of typing, which makes it feel closer to a voice assistant.
What changed at Inflection AI
Pi’s history explains why so many people ask whether it still exists. In March 2024, much of Inflection AI’s founding team joined Microsoft and the company was restructured. Pi nonetheless stayed online. In July 2026, Inflection AI, now led by CEO Sean White, launched Inflection AI Labs and a first experiment, Pi Journeys, which tailors support to the stage of life a person is in.
Inflection AI says Pi runs on its own foundation models but does not publish model names or versions. That makes it impossible to place Pi precisely in our AI ranking.
Limits to keep in mind
- No paid plan shown: the page we checked lists no prices and no stated usage caps.
- Little public detail on privacy: the pages we consulted do not say whether you can keep your chats out of model training. Avoid sharing sensitive information.
- Regional availability: Inflection AI does not list supported countries on the pages we checked, so look for the app in your local app store.
- Not a work tool: for web research, documents or code, tools like Claude or Perplexity are a better match.
When it makes sense
Pi works well for personal, occasional use: thinking through a decision, practicing how to phrase a request, or keeping track of small tasks. Remember that an AI can be confidently wrong (that is called hallucination) and that it is no substitute for a friend or a professional. To find the assistant that fits your needs, our quiz takes just a few questions.
